Tracking Call Off Days 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Does anyone know if there is a way to track Call off days in QB?
I'm thinking about setting up a payroll item at $0.00 just to keep track, but will this throw off my job costing reports?
I need to report on the number of days that apprentices are absent and thought that this might be an easy way to do it. Any help would be appreciated!
P.S. Please don't make it too complicated!!

That is an awesome question, and already the gears in my head are spinning. Give me a week to muddle through pros/cons/details, etc.

Sorry for the delay - it's been very busy here.

If I were to do this, in my Customer:Job List I'd have a Customer named with my business name, and then I would set up Jobs for various things I wanted to track - Shop time, Call Off Days, Vacation, Overhead, etc.

In my payroll item list I'd create a payroll item called Call Off, assign it to the appropriate employees with a $0 rate. When I entered timesheets and wanted to track call off days I would choose the Call Off Days Job for my company and the Call Off Day Payroll Item.

If you needed to track what job they should have been on for any purpose you could use the Notes field on the timesheet OR
Just reference the Job with the Call Off Days payroll item.

This should not affect your job costing reports at all because the rate of pay would be 0.

Does this help?

Bingo!
That was sort of what I had in mind, I just wasn't sure about the effect it would have on my reports.
I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes.

Great!

It didn't cause any issues in my test file, and I could access "reports" by starting with the Reports menu, Jobs, Time & Mileage, Time by Job Detail Report and then filtering it only to include the job called Call Off Days.
