The following newsletter was sent to all active customers on 10/01/07; announcing the release of QuickBooks 2008 and the release of compabibility updates for our software - which are required for use this new version of QuickBooks.
Annual Review of QuickBooks 2008 Available: Our annual review of the new features/function that we have found in the latest version of QuickBooks is currently available in our on-line Technical Support Area - http://www.sunburstsoftwaresolutions.com/support/ - look for the article called "QuickBooks 2008 - What's New?" and double click on it. This is a 55 page .PDF article and should answer most of your questions beyond pricing and new features; including problems we found during testing, as well as, provide you with a suggested basic upgrade procedure. We provide this annual review as a courtesy to our customers and we highly recommend that you visit the Technical Support Area and download a copy.
Certified Payroll Solution: QuickBooks 2008 Compatibility Update Available We have released a QuickBooks 2008 compatibility update for Certified Payroll Solution which is currently available on our Web Service Center. The version number is 5.0.256 and it is currently in an "Alpha" status - which means we have tested it thoroughly on Windows 2000, XP and Windows Vista and have encountered no problems. To obtain the update simply start Certified Payroll Solution, go to the Help menu and choose either Check for Updates (a new feature) or About and then click the "Login to" button. If you need help installing updates, visit the Certified Payroll Solution Technical and Training Documentation section (http://www.sunburstsoftwaresolutions.com/support/cps-support/cps-technical.htm) of our On-Line Technical Support Area and download the article called "Obtaining Certified Payroll Solution Updates". In addition to compatibility with QuickBooks 2008, Version 5.0.256 also includes: - Bug fixes for Label printing
- Adds a California EEOC Report (similar to the CC-257) without classifications of employment by Gender and Race
- New Nevade Certified Payroll Report and Statement of Compliance - requires a state form update also
- New Colorado DOT Statement of Compliance - requires a state form update also
- New Massachusetts Department of Occupational Safety Certified Payroll Report and Statement of Compliance - requires a state form update also
- Enhanced update/installation procedure that is easier to use
IMPORTANT: You must install this update in order for CPS to be able to talk to QuickBooks 2008 and retrieve your payroll data. Failure to install this update will result in an "unsupported version of QuickBooks detected - program ending" message.

The version number is 5.0.141 and it is currently in an "Alpha" status - which means we have tested it thoroughly on Windows 2000, XP and Windows Vista and have encountered no problems. To obtain the update simply start Construction Application for Payment Solution, go to the Help menu and choose either Check for Updates (a new feature) or About and then click the "Login to" button. - Bug corrections relating to QuickBooks Menu and Event Notification
- Bug correction relating to rounding errors of lines 4-8 on the "cover sheet" when there was no retainage
IMPORTANT: You must install this update in order for CAPS to be able to talk to QuickBooks 2008 and retrieve your billing information. Failure to install this update will result in an "unsupported version of QuickBooks detected - program ending" message.
Other News: It appears that the ability to retrieve the number of Federal Withholding Allowances from the QuickBooks Employee Record, as well as the ability to work with Payroll Items which are Additions, Deductions and Company Contributions in the new release of Intuit's SDK (Software Development Kits), which we use to write the CPS program, is still not available. We respectfully ask all Certified Payroll Solution and Wage Manager Solution users to sign our petition to Intuit requesting that they add this ability to the SDK so that we may have access to these items so that you do not have to re-enter that information into CPS in order for it to appear on your certified payroll reports.
Just to clarify the above statement, we are NOT looking to sue Intuit (as some people thought in our last request and reported it as such to Intuit). Rather we are submitting a petition to request additional functionality be added to their Software Development Kit.
If you are interested in signing our petition, start CPS, go to the Help menu, choose About, click the "Login to" button and look for the section on the right titled Help us get more data from QuickBooks and click the button that says Sign Petition to Intuit. Taking 5 minutes of your time today, will eliminate the need for duplicate data entry on your part in the future. |
